| Metric cup | 250 | 132 | 250 |
| Imperial cup | 284.1 | 150 | 284 |
Questions people ask
How many grams in a cup of a dry ingredient?
No single figure fits dry ingredients. A US cup holds 81 g of rolled oats, 125 g of all-purpose flour and 200 g of granulated sugar. Look up the ingredient itself.
Is a cup 240 grams?
Only for water in a US legal cup, which holds 240 ml. A US customary cup holds 236.6 ml, so it carries 237 g of water, 244 g of whole milk and 125 g of all-purpose flour.
Why use grams instead of cups?
A scale reads the same however you fill it, but a cup does not. King Arthur Baking lists 120 g for a cup of cake flour. USDA's figure for a cup dipped straight from the bag is 137 g.
